Understanding Panel Fastener (Part) Templates
Panel Fastener Templates let you add machining operations — like drilling or boring for hardware — to each part in a cabinet (ends, top, back, shelves, and so on), for a specific fastener. They control how that fastener gets machined into each part type, separately for Base, Wall, and Tall cabinets.
Note: Panel Fastener Templates add operations only. They cannot change the shape of a part — use a different tool if you need to reshape a part.
Setting Up a Panel Fastener Template
- Fastener Name – choose your Panel Fastener from the dropdown list. Only one Panel Fastener can be active per Product Library at a time.
- Image – add a JPG image to C:\Mozaik\Data\Fasteners, named to match your template's name, so it displays correctly.
- New, Save, Save As – click New to start a new set of Part Templates, Save to preserve your work as you go, or Save As to copy the current set under a new name.
- Cost, Markup%, Add-on – enter your cost per cabinet for this Panel Fastener, then set your markup as a percentage or a flat dollar amount.
- Cabinet Type – choose Base, Wall, or Tall. Operations can be set differently for each part type, per cabinet type.
- Copy to Wall and Tall Cabinets – once operations are set correctly on the Base cabinet parts, use this to copy them over to the Wall and Tall parts instead of rebuilding them from scratch.
Adding Operations to Parts
Part Thumbnails show each part type used across the template (L.Fin End, R.Fin End, Top, Fr Stretcher, UnFin Back, Nailer, Fixed Shelf, L.UnFin End, R.UnFin End, Bottom, Rear Stretcher, Fin Back, Toe, Face Frame). Click a part's thumbnail to open the shape editor and add the fastener's machining operations to that part.
Panel Fastener Parameters
Fas1 through Fas6 are custom values you can reference in formulas tied to this template. Each has its own value and description field, so you can label what each one represents for this fastener.
Note: To apply a saved Panel Fastener Template to a room, select it under Parameters, then Fasteners, then PnlFast.
Troubleshooting
- Only one Panel Fastener can be active per Product Library at a time — if you need a second fastener available, you'll need a separate library or template setup.
- Operations set on Base cabinet parts do not automatically apply to Wall or Tall cabinets — use Copy to Wall and Tall Cabinets once Base is configured correctly.
- Panel Fastener Templates cannot add or edit part shape — only operations. Shape changes need to be made elsewhere.
Common Issues
- Fastener image not displaying confirm the JPG is saved in C:\Mozaik\Data\Fasteners and named exactly the same as the template.
- Wall/Tall parts missing the fastener operation: the Copy to Wall and Tall Cabinets button wasn't used after setting up Base.
