The Hinges Tab in the Hardware Library is used to set up the specifications for your cabinet's hinges, including hinge cup drilling, hinge plate boring, and hinge positioning on the door.:
Hinge Setup
- Hinge Name — Select the hinge from the dropdown list.
- Hinge Cup Drilling — Click the Drill button to open the hinge cup boring editor.
- Pricing — Enter the Cost, Markup %, and/or Add-On $ for the hinge.
- Horizontal Hinge Plate? — Choose whether the hinge has a horizontal hinge plate (as opposed to a vertical hinge plate).
Hinge Plate Boring
- Hole Separation — Enter the hole separation for the hinge plate holes. Typically 32mm.
- Third Hinge — Set the door height required to trigger a third hinge. Hinge locations and quantity per door can be adjusted in the Product Editor Face Tab Adjustment menu.
- Hole Size — Set the diameter and depth of the hinge plate boring.
- Boring Inset from Front — Set the inset from the front for the hinge plate holes. This differs depending on whether the hinge uses a vertical or horizontal plate.
- Hinge Position from the Door Bottom — Enter the distance from the door bottom to the bottom hinge plate hole.
Note: The Hinge Position from the Door Bottom does not reference the hinge center. If the center position matters, verify it using the Drill button.
Hinge Sidebar Tools
The sidebar buttons manage the hinge as a whole, separate from its individual settings:
- Add — Adds a new hinge.
- Delete — Deletes the hinge.
- Rename — Renames the current hinge.
- Copy — Copies the current hinge and settings.
- Export — Exports the selected hinge.
- Import — Imports a hinge.
- Specs — Opens the hinge spec document. Add the document to the C:\Mozaik\Data\Specs folder and name it the same as the hinge's name.
Quick Reference
- Hinge Cup Drilling — Opens the hinge cup boring editor
- Horizontal Hinge Plate? — Whether the hinge uses a horizontal or vertical plate
- Hole Separation — Spacing between hinge plate holes (typically 32mm)
- Third Hinge — Door height threshold that triggers a third hinge
- Hole Size — Diameter and depth of hinge plate boring
- Boring Inset from Front — Front-face inset for hinge plate holes, varies by plate orientation
- Hinge Position from the Door Bottom — Distance from door bottom to the bottom hinge plate hole
Common Issues
- Hinge plate holes not aligning as expected: Check whether Horizontal Hinge Plate is set correctly — inset direction and hole layout differ between vertical and horizontal plates.
- Third hinge not appearing on tall doors: Check the door height threshold set in Third Hinge and confirm hinge quantity/location overrides in the Product Editor Face Tab Adjustment menu.
- Hinge position looks off from the expected center point: Remember Hinge Position from the Door Bottom references the bottom hole, not the hinge center — use the Drill button to verify actual center placement.
Troubleshooting
- Boring Inset from Front values are not interchangeable between plate types — vertical and horizontal plates use different inset directions, so confirm which plate type is active before entering values.
- Hole Separation is typically 32mm by convention but should be confirmed against the manufacturer's spec sheet for the specific hinge in use.
