Understanding the Locks Tab in the Hardware Library
The Locks Tab in the Hardware Library is where you set up the locks you use on doors and drawer fronts — their size, 3D appearance, pricing, and where they get placed and machined. Once a lock is set up here, you can apply it to your whole room or add it to individual doors as needed.
Setting Up a Lock
To set up a lock, fill in the following:
- Name – choose a name from the dropdown, or add a new one.
- Cost, Markup %, Add-on – enter what the lock costs you, then set your markup as a percentage or a flat dollar amount.
- Image – add a picture of the lock (around 512 x 256 pixels works best) so it's easy to recognize in the list.
- Comment – add any notes about the lock.
- Lock Model – choose the 3D model file for the lock.
- Lock Width, Lock Height, Depth Adj – enter the lock's real-world size and how deep it sits into the door.
Note: Position the 3D model tight to the origin in SketchUp before importing it, or it won't line up correctly on the door if you are opening it in SketchUp.
Adding the Machining Operation
Click Edit under Operations to tell Mozaik how to cut the door or drawer front for this lock — for example, boring a hole or cutting a groove.
- Operations are cut on the front of the door by default. Click the blue arrow if you need the operation on the back instead.
Placing the Lock on the Door
Where the lock sits is set separately for Drawer Fronts, Left/Right Doors, and Top/Bottom Doors — each has its own tab because the layout is different. For each one, you'll set:
- Elevation – how far up or down the lock sits (choose a reference point like Top, Center, or Bottom, then enter a distance).
- Inset – how far in from the side the lock sits (choose Left, Center, or Right, then enter a distance).
Note: On Left/Right Doors, the reference points are based on the Pull Side and Hinge Side instead, since those change with the swing of the door.
Managing Your Lock List
Use the buttons next to the list to Add, Delete, Rename, Export, or Import a lock. Specs open the lock's spec sheet (if applicable) — save that file using the same name as the lock.
Click OK to save your changes or Cancel to back out without saving.
Troubleshooting
- Lock isn't showing up on a door or drawer: make sure the lock is turned on in Settings for the room, or applied to that specific door using Override in the Face Tab.
- Lock cutting on the wrong side of the door: check the blue arrow toggle in the Operations editor — it switches the cut between the front and back face.
- Lock sitting in the wrong spot: double check you're editing the right tab (Drawer Fronts vs. Left/Right Doors vs. Top/Bottom Doors) — each is set independently.
Common Issues
- Lock 3D model looks off-center: the model wasn't positioned at the origin before importing it.
- Elevation looks wrong on a door: the reference point (like Pull Side) shifts between Base and Wall cabinets — confirm which one you're working on.
