Troubleshooting Installation Failure When Updating to Mozaik 14.1
If you encounter an installation error while updating Mozaik to version 14.1, the issue is typically caused by Windows security restrictions preventing the installer from modifying required system files.
The error message will reference a specific file—most commonly:
WriteableBitmapEx.Wpf.dll
and will display a message similar to:
“The installation was not successful. Access to the path 'WriteableBitmapEx.Wpf.dll' is denied.”
This indicates that Windows is blocking access to a file needed for the update.
Primary Resolution: Disable Windows UAC (User Account Control)
Disabling User Account Control temporarily allows the Mozaik installer to properly update system files.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Click Start and type UAC
- Open Change User Account Control settings
- Move the slider all the way down to Never notify
- Click OK
- If prompted, click Yes
- Restart your PC (recommended)
After restarting, re-run the Mozaik 14.1 installer. In most cases, the installation will complete successfully.
Important: Once installation is complete, we recommend re-enabling UAC to maintain normal Windows security settings.
Secondary Resolution: Manually Remove the File
If disabling UAC does not resolve the issue, you can manually remove the file referenced in the error message and then re-run the installer.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Close the Mozaik Installer
Click Finish when the error appears. Navigate to the File Location
Open File Explorer and go to:C:\Mozaik\System\- Locate the File Referenced in the Error
Look for the file mentioned in the error message (for example,WriteableBitmapEx.Wpf.dll). - Delete the File
Right-click the file and select Delete. - Run the Installer Again
Re-launch the Mozaik 14.1 installer. The installation should now complete successfully.
