Overview
If you encounter issues with Cutout By Material not functioning as expected, this is commonly caused by a discrepancy in the cutout tool assignments within the toolset. This typically occurs when multiple cutout tools exist and one has been removed or left unassigned.
Cause
When a toolset contains multiple cutting tools, Mozaik may retain a material reference that no longer has a cutout tool assigned. This can result in errors or unexpected behavior when processing jobs.
Symptoms
- Cutout By Material does not apply correctly
- Materials appear in the Cutout By Material list without a tool assigned
- Errors after removing or modifying tools in a toolset
Resolution
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
- Open Tool Manager and navigate to the affected Toolset.
- Add an additional Cutout Tool to the toolset (this enables the Cutout By Material menu to appear).
- Open the Cutout By Material configuration menu.

- Review the list of materials.
- Identify any material that does not have a cutout tool assigned.
- Remove the unassigned material from the list.
- Save the toolset.
- Reprocess the job and verify the results.
Example
In the example shown below, an additional cutout tool was temporarily added to expose the Cutout By Material list. One material appeared without a tool assignment, which caused the issue. Removing that material resolved the problem.

Result
Once the unassigned material is removed and all materials have valid cutout tool assignments, Cutout By Material will function correctly.:

Additional Notes
- Always verify tool assignments after adding or removing tools from a toolset.
- Maintaining consistent toolsets helps prevent material-to-tool mismatches.
If the issue persists after following these steps, contact the Mozaik Help Desk for further assistance.
