Although Mozaik can indeed import DXF files, it's crucial to understand that our main strength lies in being a comprehensive screen-to-machine solution specifically crafted for parts designed within our software.
Our expertise is centered around supporting and streamlining the production of parts engineered using our platform. If you have external parts or drawings that need machining, you might find it more suitable to explore dedicated CAM packages like VCarve Pro, designed specifically for this purpose.
DXF Import Rules:
- We import DXF files for shape cutting on flatbed routers.
- They must be "simple shapes" - outlines only with solid lines (no breaks or unjoined line segments).
- Layers can be used to import operations, but they must match the layer names in Mozaik.
- Files should be 2D only - the third dimension is the thickness of the material it will be cut on.
- We do not support 3D carving.
Tips for Successful DXF Imports:
- Try to use or save DXF files as AutoCAD R12 (an older version) file type.
- Shapes from Vectric VCarve Pro tend to import well. AutoCAD shapes can be more challenging.
- For curves with alternating bulge directions, you can use the Shape Editor to change from negative to positive values or vice versa.
- Layers are crucial for determining operations. For example, a rectangle polyline inside a part needs to be on a layer named either 'GROOVE' or 'DETAIL' for Mozaik to understand the intended operation.
- You can export a sample shape from the Shape Tab as an example DXF to review layer naming conventions.
